Pre-raid Best in Slot (BiS) is the gear you need before you start running ICC 25 normal mode in 2026 WoW Forever. It's the threshold where you can clear ICC 25 normal with a competent raid. Going below this threshold means you'll be a liability in 25-man content, and going above it means you're raid-ready for hard modes.
This guide is for WoW Forever players at level 80 in 2026 who want a clear gear acquisition path before stepping into ICC. By the end, you'll know the BiS pieces for every spec, where to get them, and the order to acquire them.
Quick answer up front: Pre-raid BiS in 2026 WotLK 3.3.5a is mostly Emblem of Triumph + Emblem of Frost gear + 5-person Heroic drops + crafted epics. The total cost is 3,000-6,000g + 100-150 emblem turn-ins + 1-2 weeks of Heroic farming. Below is the spec-by-spec gear list.
How the pre-raid BiS system works in 2026
Three things define pre-raid BiS in 2026:
- Emblem of Triumph gear is the foundation. This is the BiS gear you buy from vendors in Dalaran / Shattrath for emblems earned in 5-person Heroics and 10-man raids.
- 5-person Heroic drops fill the gaps. Specific pieces from 5-man Heroics (e.g., the Titansteel Bulwark shield, the Paladin T10 tokens) are BiS.
- Crafted epics (JC, BS, LW) cover the rest. A small set of crafted pieces (e.g., the JC trinkets, the Titansteel Destroyer) are BiS for the specs that can use them.
The practical implication: pre-raid BiS is achievable in 1-2 weeks of focused Heroic spam, with no gold required (you can buy Emblem gear with badges earned from the heroics themselves).

The universal pre-raid BiS checklist
Every spec in 2026 WotLK 3.3.5a needs the following 5 items before stepping into ICC 25 normal:
- Sons of Hodir Exalted shoulder enchant (mandatory, +2-5% DPS).
- Ashen Band (the spec-appropriate ring from Emblem of Triumph).
- Top trinket (Dark Matter, Death's Verdict, or Death's Choice).
- 4-piece Tier 9 (T9 from ToC 25 normal).
- Emblem of Triumph gear in 4-5 slots (head, legs, belt, wrist, gloves typically).
The total cost: 3,000-6,000g + 100-150 emblems + 2-3 weeks of Heroic farming. After that, you're ready for ICC 25 normal.
The fastest BiS acquisition path (2026)
If you want to gear fast, the order is:
- Day 1-3: Spam 5-person Heroics in Icecrown (Forge of Souls → Pit of Saron → Halls of Reflection) for emblems and early gear drops.
- Day 4-7: Buy Emblem of Triumph gear as you accumulate badges.
- Week 2: ToC 25 normal 2-3 times per week for Tier 9 set tokens.
- Week 3: ToC 25 hard mode 1-2 times per week for BiS trinkets.
- Week 4: ICC 25 normal 1-2 times per week to upgrade individual pieces.
By week 4-5, you should be fully BiS-geared and ready for ICC 25 hard mode progression.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the cheapest pre-raid BiS in WotLK 3.3.5a 2026?
Emblem of Triumph gear is the cheapest BiS because it doesn't require gold, just emblems. The most expensive BiS pieces are the ToC 25 hard mode trinkets (Death's Verdict / Choice), which require luck and guild progression.
Can I get pre-raid BiS without doing ToC 25 normal?
Yes, mostly. Emblem of Triumph covers 5-6 slots, 5-person Heroic drops cover 2-3 slots, and crafted epics cover 1-2 slots. The only BiS items locked behind ToC 25 are the Tier 9 set tokens.
How long does it take to get full pre-raid BiS?
2-3 weeks of focused Heroic + ToC farming for a new 80. 1-2 weeks if you have 4-piece Tier 9 already from prior characters.
What is the most important pre-raid BiS piece for a Frost DK?
Death's Verdict (trinket) — the single biggest damage increase for a Frost DK pre-ICC. Get this first.
What is the most important pre-raid BiS piece for a Holy Paladin?
Soul of the Dead (trinket) — the single biggest healing increase for a Holy Paladin. Mana regen is the bottleneck for healers, and Soul of the Dead is the strongest regen trinket pre-ICC.
Should I prioritize Emblem gear or ToC 25 hard trinkets?
ToC 25 hard trinkets first, then Emblem gear. The trinket slot is the biggest single damage/healing increase, and you can get the Emblem gear whenever.
