WoW Forever Beta Phase 1 vs Phase 2: Level Cap, Content, Dates (2026)

Two glowing magical gates side by side representing Beta Phase 1 and Phase 2

WoW Forever Beta Phase 1 vs Phase 2: Level Cap, Content, Dates

The WoW Forever beta is split into two distinct phases — Phase 1 (level 20 cap) and Phase 2 (level 30 cap). This is a correction to earlier coverage: the beta does not start at level 30. It opens at level 20 for two weeks, then bumps to level 30 for the remaining three weeks. This guide breaks down what’s available in each phase and what to prioritize.

For broader beta coverage, see our Beta Day 1 Recap and Beta Bugs & Known Issues.

Quick summary: Phase 1 runs from September 17 to ~October 1, 2026 with a level 20 cap — enough for Zephras Isle (1-12) and Hall of Thanes (13-18) plus partial Ruins of Lordaeron testing. Phase 2 runs from ~October 1 to October 21 with a level 30 cap — adds Excavation Site dungeon and full Forever content up to level 30. Plan your testing accordingly.

Important correction

Earlier coverage from some sources (including our initial guides) stated the beta caps at level 30 throughout. This was incorrect. The official beta structure from Blizzard is two phases:

  • Phase 1 (Sept 17 – ~Oct 1): Level 20 cap
  • Phase 2 (~Oct 1 – Oct 21): Level 30 cap

This affects strategy: players testing Zephras Isle and Hall of Thanes have ~2 weeks to do so at the level 20 cap, then ~3 weeks at level 30.

Phase 1: September 17 – ~October 1, 2026

Phase 1 basics

Aspect Detail
Duration ~2 weeks
Level cap 20
New class abilities Yes — all classes available
New profession items Yes
New dungeons Hall of Thanes (13-18), Ruins of Lordaeron (15-20)
Legacy system Available

What’s available in Phase 1

  • Zephras Isle — full 1-12 Skyborne starting zone
  • Hall of Thanes — new Forever dungeon, level 13-18
  • Ruins of Lordaeron — partial testing possible (level 15-20)
  • All 9 races including new Skyborne
  • All 9 classes including 6 new race-class combos
  • All reworked racials for the 8 classic races
  • Level 20 content — dungeons, quests, professions

What’s NOT available in Phase 1

  • Level 30 cap content
  • Excavation Site dungeon (24-29)
  • Mount Hyjal (50+)
  • Shen’dralas (35-45)
  • The Riverglades (35-45)
  • Endgame raids (Barrow Deeps, Hyjal Summit)
  • Darkspear Islands battleground

What to prioritize in Phase 1

If you only have ~2 weeks at level 20, prioritize:

  1. Test Skyborne Zephras Isle — full faction choice arc
  2. Run Hall of Thanes multiple times — see boss mechanics, loot tables
  3. Test racial reworks for classic races — try one of each
  4. Test new race-class combos — Undead Paladin, Dwarf Shaman, etc.
  5. Submit bug reports for Phase 1-specific issues

Phase 2: ~October 1 – October 21, 2026

Phase 2 basics

Aspect Detail
Duration ~3 weeks
Level cap 30
New class abilities Yes — additional abilities may unlock
New profession items Yes — likely more recipes
New dungeons Excavation Site: Wetlands (24-29) — new in Phase 2
Legacy system Continued

What’s added in Phase 2

Everything from Phase 1, plus:

  • Level 30 cap — full content up to 30
  • Excavation Site dungeon (24-29)
  • More talents (Phase 1 has fewer talent points)
  • More endgame PvP testing available
  • More profession recipes
  • Likely hotfixes addressing Phase 1 issues

What to prioritize in Phase 2

  1. Run Excavation Site multiple times — see boss mechanics, Brogdul rare spawn
  2. Test all 6 new race-class combos at higher levels
  3. Stress-test class balance at level 30
  4. Test raid-prep content — even though raids aren’t in beta, see prep paths
  5. Final bug report sweep before launch

Date estimates

Event Date Source
Phase 1 begins Sept 17, 2026 Confirmed
Phase 1 ends ~Oct 1, 2026 Estimated (2 weeks)
Phase 2 begins ~Oct 1, 2026 Estimated (2 weeks after Phase 1)
Phase 2 ends Oct 21-22, 2026 Confirmed
Official launch Nov 4, 2026, 3:00 PM PST Confirmed

Note: Blizzard has not confirmed the exact Phase 1 → Phase 2 transition date. Watch for in-game announcements.

What carries over from beta?

Nothing. Beta characters, progression, gold, reputation — none of it transfers to live servers on November 4.

Treat the beta as a preview and feedback opportunity, not a head start.

Strategy recommendations

If you have 1-2 hours of beta time

Focus on Phase 1 priorities: Zephras Isle + Hall of Thanes + bug reports.

If you have 10+ hours

Spread across both phases: Heavy Phase 1 testing, then Phase 2 for level 30 content.

If you want to help the launch

Submit detailed bug reports in both phases. Quality feedback shapes the November 4 launch.

FAQ

What is the WoW Forever beta level cap?

Level 20 in Phase 1 (Sept 17 – Oct 1), Level 30 in Phase 2 (Oct 1 – Oct 21).

When does Phase 2 start?

Approximately October 1, 2026 — two weeks after Phase 1 began.

Do beta characters carry over?

No. Beta is preview only — no transfer to live realm.

What’s in Phase 2 that’s not in Phase 1?

Excavation Site dungeon, level 30 cap content, more talents.

Final verdict

Phase 1 is for: testing Skyborne, Hall of Thanes, racial reworks, new race-class combos.

Phase 2 is for: testing Excavation Site, level 30 content, endgame prep, full balance testing.

Plan your beta time accordingly. Phase 1 has the new race content (Skyborne), while Phase 2 has the new dungeon content (Excavation Site). Both phases are essential for full beta coverage.

For our broader beta coverage, see the Beta Day 1 Recap, Beta Bugs, and Best Addons guides.

Note: Earlier guides on this site that mentioned “beta caps at level 30” have been corrected to reflect the two-phase structure. Updated guides will publish as Phase 2 begins.
