WoW: Forever introduces nine new five-player dungeons across the leveling journey, from Hall of Thanes at a published 13–18 to Shaper’s Terrace at 58–60. Their locations matter as much as their level bands: some involve travel into hostile territory, while others have specific access preparations.
This guide is about Blizzard’s official Forever, now live worldwide, not the WotLK 3.3.5a private server discussed in older site articles. It is a planning reference for leveling groups, not a tested boss walkthrough. All ranges below are published levels, not claims about exact minimum entry requirements.
All nine dungeons at a glance
Blizzard’s dungeon overview provides this published progression map:
| Dungeon | Published levels | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Hall of Thanes | 13–18 | Dun Morogh, beneath Ironforge |
| Ruins of Lordaeron | 15–20 | Tirisfal, above Undercity |
| Excavation Site | 24–29 | Wetlands, near Whelgar’s excavation |
| City of Dalaran | 28–33 | Alterac |
| The Drowned City | 35–40 | Stranglethorn coast, west of Grom’gol |
| Krol’dok Stronghold | 40–45 | Riverglades |
| Alcaz Prison | 48–53 | Alcaz Island, Dustwallow |
| Blackmaw Hold | 55–60 | Azshara |
| Shaper’s Terrace | 58–60 | Northern Un’Goro |
Use this as a menu of opportunities, not a demand to chain instances from the first available level. Forever also rebuilds the original Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor around a 1–60 journey with more than 1,000 new quests. Our new zones and level-60 guide puts dungeon travel into that wider route.
Early expeditions: Thanes, Lordaeron and Excavation Site
Hall of Thanes sits beneath Ironforge in Dun Morogh. For Horde groups, reaching it means venturing deep into Alliance territory. That makes travel coordination an important part of the plan rather than an afterthought once everyone is ready to enter.
Ruins of Lordaeron reverses the situation: its Tirisfal location above Undercity takes Alliance groups into Horde territory. Our editorial advice is to agree on the destination and meeting plan before starting the journey, particularly when party members have different familiarity with the map.
Excavation Site moves the published range to 24–29 in the Wetlands, near Whelgar’s excavation. Blizzard identifies Titan constructs and wildlife among its features. Those themes provide context, not enough evidence to prescribe particular resistances, boss rotations or equipment purchases.
City of Dalaran: prepare access, not a Northrend itinerary
Forever’s City of Dalaran dungeon is in Alterac, not Northrend. Its published range is 28–33, and the access story involves earning the Kirin Tor’s trust and reaching the sewers. It also features multiple routes, so do not assume a single mandatory path from the entrance onward.
Alliance players begin with Emissary Jacques in Southshore and An Alarming Request. Horde players should look to Magus Wordeen Voidglare in Tarren Mill for Key to the City and Prison Break-In. These are useful starting pointers, not a substitute for reading each quest’s actual objectives.
Before a group schedules Dalaran, ask everyone whether they have addressed their faction’s access setup. A shared calendar slot is less useful if half the party expects to walk straight in and the other half is still beginning the introductory quests.
Middle levels: the coast, Riverglades and Alcaz Island
The Drowned City, published for 35–40, lies off the Stranglethorn coast west of Grom’gol. Its entrance is underwater. That confirmed detail does not establish that the entire instance is underwater, so avoid building a preparation list around that assumption. Blizzard also highlights fog, rain and storms as part of its weather presentation.
Krol’dok Stronghold takes a 40–45 group into Riverglades and an ogre setting. Use the location to organize an outing alongside nearby adventuring if that suits your party, rather than treating the level range as proof that this is always the fastest next destination.
Alcaz Prison is published for 48–53 on Alcaz Island in Dustwallow. Defias and naga are part of its setup. The island location deserves an explicit travel discussion; it does not justify inventing a queue shortcut or an unconfirmed transport service.
Approaching 60: Blackmaw Hold and Shaper’s Terrace
Blackmaw Hold occupies the 55–60 band in Azshara. Its themes include furbolg corruption, and it offers multiple paths. Our recommendation is to decide whether the group wants an exploratory run before setting expectations about pace or a supposedly universal route.
Shaper’s Terrace, at 58–60 in northern Un’Goro, has a concrete preparation detail: collected power crystals are needed for its consoles. Check those objectives before assembling the party. Do not convert that fact into an invented crystal count or a claim that another player can automatically cover everyone’s requirements.
These late-level outings can also support a social transition toward raiding, but they are not a verified best-in-slot checklist. The December 9 raid guide explains the confirmed level, roster sizes and Onyxia attunement considerations without assuming particular dungeon drops.
Frequently asked questions
Are these exact minimum entry levels?
Blizzard labels these ranges “Levels” without defining exact entry requirements. Check eligibility in game rather than treating the published bands as proof of either a hard minimum or guaranteed group readiness.
How many players are these dungeons designed for?
All nine are five-player dungeons. Before organizing one, confirm that your friends have characters on the same ruleset and faction; a level-appropriate destination cannot solve incompatible character choices.
Is City of Dalaran the Northrend version?
No. This new Forever dungeon is in Alterac. Its faction-specific starting quests involve Southshore or Tarren Mill, with Kirin Tor trust and sewer access forming part of its setup.
Which dungeon has an explicit crystal preparation requirement?
Shaper’s Terrace requires collected power crystals for its consoles. The practical advice is to check that preparation before the run, rather than infer quantities or other access rules not established by the overview.
For the social setup behind any party, consult the ruleset and friends guide. Pick an appropriate destination, prepare its confirmed access needs, and leave unverified loot and speed claims out of the plan.
