A dark fantasy dungeon hall with ancient dwarven statues and runic torches

Hall of Thanes Dungeon Guide: All Bosses, Loot, and Best Route

Hall of Thanes is the first major new dungeon in WoW Forever, tuned for level 13-18 players. The dungeon is set in ancient dwarven halls beneath Ironforge, with four bosses and a final encounter that drops one of the best starter trinkets in the game. This guide covers every boss strategy, the loot table, the fastest route, and the recommended party composition.

For overall leveling strategy, see our Beta Leveling Guide. For other Forever dungeons, see our Excavation Site Guide (level 24-29) and Ruins of Lordaeron Guide (level 15-20).

Quick summary: Hall of Thanes is tuned for 13-18 but accepts level 12. Clear time is 25-35 minutes for a fresh group, 18-22 minutes for an optimized group. The final boss drops the Thane’s Last Command trinket — the best pre-20 trinket in the game. Recommended party: tank, healer, 3x DPS.

Dungeon basics

Stat Value
Level range 13-18 (12 accepted)
Bosses 4 + 1 final
Estimated clear time 25-35 minutes (fresh), 18-22 (optimized)
Recommended party Tank, Healer, 3x DPS
Final boss loot Thane’s Last Command (trinket)

Location

Hall of Thanes is accessed through Ironforge’s main gate, north of the city. The dungeon entrance is a stone archway at coordinates (56, 47) in Dun Morogh.

For Horde players, the run to the entrance is through Wetlands → Loch Modan → Dun Morogh. Expect hostile NPCs on the way — use stealth (Rogue) or invisibility potions if available.

Quests inside

There are 5 dungeon quests available from the entrance NPC and Ironforge quest board:

  • “The Thane’s Last Stand” — kill the final boss (main quest)
  • “Ancient Dwarven Relics” — collect 8 relics from mobs
  • “The Stonewatcher’s Pendant” — drops from the second boss
  • “Runestone of Binding” — found in a hidden room
  • “Thane’s Last Command” — turn in the trinket to start a chain quest

Doing all five quests nets roughly 3,500 XP bonus plus reputation with Ironforge.

Boss guide

Boss 1: Warden Ironbrand

HP: ~5,500 | Level: 14 Recommended level: 13+

Mechanics:

  • Shield Bash — interrupts spellcasting, 6 sec CD
  • Consecration — light AoE damage, stationary
  • Holy Light — self-heal, interruptible

Strategy:

  • Tank holds boss in place
  • DPS focus the boss down — interrupt Holy Light
  • Healer keeps tank alive through Consecration ticks
  • Phase at 50%: boss adds 2 dwarven guards — burn guards first, then boss

Loot:

  • Ironbrand Pauldrons (Mail shoulders, +6 Stamina)
  • Wardenblade (1H Sword, +5 Strength)
  • Consecrated Stone (Trinket, +10 Spell Power on use)

Boss 2: Stonewatcher Golad

HP: ~6,200 | Level: 15 Recommended level: 14+

Mechanics:

  • Earth Shock — interrupt + damage, 8 sec CD
  • Stone Call — summons 3 stone adds
  • Healing Totem — drops a totem that heals nearby mobs

Strategy:

  • Kill the Healing Totem FIRST (1 hit from any DPS)
  • Burn the stone adds before they overwhelm the group
  • Tank holds boss while AoE clears adds
  • Earth Shock is annoying but not dangerous

Loot:

  • Stonewatcher’s Pendant (Neck, +15 Spell Power)
  • Golad’s Earthbreaker (2H Mace, +12 Strength)
  • Runestone of Binding (Quest item for hidden chain)

Boss 3: Twilight Emissary

HP: ~6,800 | Level: 16 Recommended level: 15+

Mechanics:

  • Shadow Bolt — main attack
  • Curse of Weakness — debuffs melee damage
  • Summon Voidwalker — adds a pet demon
  • Fear — AoE fear, 30 sec CD

Strategy:

  • Kill Voidwalker first (low HP)
  • Dispel Curse of Weakness on melee DPS
  • Use Fear immunity items if available (PvP trinket, Berserking)
  • Interrupt Shadow Bolt if possible
  • AoE pack the demon with cleave/Gouge

Loot:

  • Emissary’s Shadow Cloak (Back, +12 Spell Power)
  • Void-Touched Wand (Wand, +10 Spell Power)
  • Cursed Black Pearl (Trinket, +20 Shadow Damage for 20 sec, 2 min CD)

Boss 4: The Ancient Guardian

HP: ~8,500 | Level: 17 Recommended level: 16+

Mechanics:

  • Sand Breath — front cone attack, 800 damage
  • Earthquake — AoE damage, party loses positioning
  • Stoneskin — +50% damage reduction, dispellable
  • Summon Earthen — adds 2-3 dwarven spirits

Strategy:

  • Don’t stand in front of the boss — sidestep Sand Breath
  • Dispel Stoneskin immediately when applied
  • Burn the Earthen adds fast — they multiply quickly
  • AoE group the adds while tank holds boss
  • Earthquake is unavoidable but survivable with healer cooldowns

Loot:

  • Ancient Stone (Trinket, +5% HP for 1 hour)
  • Guardian’s Greaves (Plate boots, +8 Stamina)
  • Tome of Forbidden Knowledge (Off-hand, +12 Spell Power)

Boss 5 (Final): Thane Ironbeard

HP: ~12,000 | Level: 18 (Rare Elite) Recommended level: 17+

Mechanics:

  • Whirlwind — melee AoE, hits all in melee range
  • Avatar — +30% damage for 15 sec
  • Heroic Strike — bonus damage on tank
  • Summon Honor Guard — adds 4 dwarven warriors at 50% HP
  • Last Stand — at 20% HP, regen for 10 sec (interruptible)

Strategy:

  • Tank moves away during Whirlwind
  • Save cooldowns for Avatar phase
  • Burn the Honor Guard adds FAST — they enrage
  • Interrupt Last Stand at all costs (kick, stun, spell-lock)
  • Save Bloodlust/Heroism for the burn phase (20% HP)

Loot:

  • Thane’s Last Command (Trinket, +30 Attack Power for 20 sec, 2 min CD) — best pre-20 trinket
  • Ironbeard’s Warplate (Plate chest, +20 Strength, +15 Stamina)
  • Helm of the Mountain King (Mail head, +15 Agility)
  • Thane’s Signet (Ring, +10 All Stats)

Best route through the dungeon

The fastest route is left path → right path → final chamber:

  1. Pull #1-3: Trash packs in the entrance hall
  2. Boss 1: Warden Ironbrand at the end of the left wing
  3. Pull #4-6: Trash in the central courtyard
  4. Boss 2: Stonewatcher Golad in the eastern corridor
  5. Pull #7-9: Trash in the upper gallery
  6. Boss 3: Twilight Emissary in the chapel
  7. Pull #10-12: Trash in the stone vault (skip the optional pack)
  8. Boss 4: The Ancient Guardian at the foot of the throne
  9. Pull #13-14: Pre-final trash (skip if low on mana/cooldowns)
  10. Boss 5: Thane Ironbeard in the throne room

Skip the optional side rooms unless your group is over-leveled or doing quests.

Recommended party composition

Role Class Why
Tank Warrior (Prot) or Paladin (Prot) Best threat generation
Healer Priest (Discipline) or Druid (Restoration) Strong throughput + utility
DPS 1 Mage (Frost) Strong AoE for trash
DPS 2 Rogue or Warrior (Fury) Strong single-target
DPS 3 Hunter or Warlock Pet utility + ranged safety

Alternative DPS: Any class works. Avoid bringing 4 melee — AoE trash packs are the main threat.

Common mistakes

Mistake Cost Fix
Forgetting to interrupt Last Stand Wipe at 20% Always interrupt on final boss
Not killing Healing Totem on Boss 2 Adds never die Kill totem first
Standing in front of Boss 4 Death by Sand Breath Sidestep
Pulling too many trash packs Wipe Pull 2-3 mobs at a time
Not doing quests ~3,500 XP lost Pick up quests before run

XP per run estimate

Level XP gained (full clear) Time
13 ~6,000 XP 30 min
14 ~5,500 XP 28 min
15 ~5,000 XP 26 min
16 ~4,500 XP 24 min
17 ~4,000 XP 22 min
18 ~3,500 XP 20 min

Hall of Thanes is best XP/hour from 13-16. After 17, switch to Ruins of Lordaeron (level 15-20) for better scaling.

Loot priority

Loot Priority Why
Thane’s Last Command (trinket) Must-have Best pre-20 trinket
Stonewatcher’s Pendant High Strong caster neck
Cursed Black Pearl High Strong shadow trinket
Ironbeard’s Warplate High Plate BiS until 30
Other drops Medium Replace at 20+

FAQ

What level should I queue for Hall of Thanes?

Level 13+ for full XP scaling. Level 12 works but XP is slightly reduced.

How long does Hall of Thanes take?

25-35 minutes for a fresh group, 18-22 for an optimized group.

What is the best loot from Hall of Thanes?

Thane’s Last Command trinket — the best pre-20 Attack Power trinket.

Can I solo Hall of Thanes?

No. The final boss has mechanics that require a full group (Last Stand interrupt, Honor Guard adds).

Final verdict

Hall of Thanes is the best XP-per-hour dungeon for levels 13-16, and the Thane’s Last Command trinket is mandatory for any melee DPS character pre-20. Queue as a tank or healer for instant pops, or as DPS with a 5-15 minute wait.

Do all 5 dungeon quests for bonus XP. The trinket chain quest is also worth starting — it leads to a level 30 quest reward that’s competitive with dungeon blues.

Run this dungeon at least 3 times while leveling 13-17. The trinket and gear drops are strong enough to carry you to level 20.

For the next dungeon in your leveling path, see our Ruins of Lordaeron Guide (level 15-20) and Excavation Site Guide (level 24-29).
